Earlier this month, P&N invited a bunch of friends to listen to their new album GOLDEN RULES for GOLDEN PEOPLE at Store 54 in Allston. There were awesome (vegan) cookies, free beers, and they played a couple of unplugged tunes. Props to Edwin Sutphen Photography for the awesome footage.

I do EMT because music means everything to me. I can be in the back of a coffee shop, alone and anxious and with no idea what to do… and I can just play my favorite song. I can wear it like a blanket. I feel like I can remember every time I’ve heard it: the first time on tinny speakers in a dorm room at 3am in an insomniac haze, the time my friend and I blasted it from the top of a quarry and looked out on our hometown, the time I listened to it alone on the subway coming back from his funeral, the time I listened to it on the walk home after I kissed someone who would be important in my life for the first time, the few nights when I couldn’t comprehend what the next day would look like and so many when I couldn’t wait for tomorrow, the morning commutes, the evening commutes, alone and breathing the pacific ocean air for the first time, crackling on my turntable for the first time, and right now… hunched over a youtube window in a coffee shop. All that pain, happiness, uncertainty, rolled into a minute and thirty two seconds. The smell of a commuter rail seat, the satisfaction of the first day of the year in a t-shirt, true love that felt like floating every moment, faces that only exist in pictures and memories now. To quote another BoC tune, “the past inside the present”. Every time that I need it to be, this song is my guide.
