MMOSS - i
NH psych-pop that’s straight out of the 60’s. Album is PWYW, but kick them a few bux or buy a tape. Faves - “Kitty Sorrow” & “Molly Molasses”
White Denim - Last Day of Summer
REALLY catchy indie pop. This is a collection of tunes they had bouncing around since ‘06. Super fun to listen to. Faves - “Champ” & “I’d Have It Just The Way We Were”
PPALMM - Cal-Aesthetics
Mentioned in my best-of 2010 post, this album is free dollars on bandcamp. $5 for a tape and a code. Awesome electronic goodness, free of warped tape and cathedral reverb. Faves - “Acid Cops” & “New Nostalgia”.
Com Truise - Pyragony & Cyanide Sisters
CHILL_WAVES. 80’s instructional VHS tapes melting in the sun meet 80’s pop sounds through a Boards of Canada-ish “shimmery and sinister” filter. Faves - “Tripyra” & “Sundriped”.
The Maine Coons - S/T
Boston expat Matt Spent’s one-man-band’s full length debut is a 20 minute burst of skronky pop tunes. Grab a copy of his flexi 7” if it’s still available. Faves - “My Kinda Luv” & “Cant Follow Thru”.
Paper Thin Stages - I’m Running Hence
The excellent (and now-defunct) Boston band Paper Thin Stages just put the finishing touches on an album they recorded in 2007. I heard PTS play a bunch of these songs live in ‘07, and it’s awesome to see them finally get the album treatment. Faves - “400 Blows and 3 Hits” & “Annie Oakley”.
Ghost Box Orchestra - The Only Light On
To pull the great quote out again, The Only Light On sounds like “the kind of music playing at a bar in a desert in David Lynch film”. Droney/Shoegazey/Western tunes. Faves - “Oh, The Moon Hangs Low” & “The Lodge”.
Did I miss something awesome? Let me know.
